Who Is Thermacut®, and Why I Chose Them

I've spent this whole series making one argument: you're not buying a part, you're buying a manufacturer. Somebody with a name on it who has to answer for the next box as well as this one.

Which invites a fair question. So who's yours?

Here they are.

Thermacut®, in plain facts

THERMACUT® started in 1990 with three founders and a plant in the Czech Republic, building plasma consumables and torches for the European market. The brand reached North America in 1993.

Thirty-six years later they run an ISO 9001 production facility in Uherské Hradiště, sales and manufacturing across fourteen countries, and a catalogue north of 6,000 parts — including more than 160 different plasma torch head models.

They call themselves THE CUTTING COMPANY®. It's on their trademark list, which tells you how seriously they take it.

What they actually make

This is the part that matters, and it's where the "aftermarket" label stops being useful.

They engineer their own consumables. In 2005 they introduced their own developed product lines — Silver-EX® electrodes, Silver Plus™ and Silver Pro™, and the patented Tungsten-EX™ nozzle. Patented. You don't patent a copy of somebody else's part; you patent something you designed.

They build their own torches. The FHT-EX® line is Thermacut's own torch design, not a replacement for someone else's.

They build their own plasma systems. In 2013 they launched EX-TRAFIRE® — complete plasma cutting power supplies for manual and mechanized work. A company that builds machines is a company with its own engineering, its own R&D, and its own reputation riding on how the whole system performs.

And they run oxyfuel and laser lines too — EX-TRAFLAME® for oxyfuel, plus laser consumables — produced at the same facility.

That's not a shop reverse-engineering other people's nozzles. That's a cutting company.

The group behind them

Thermacut® is part of the ABICOR GROUP, alongside ABICOR BINZEL, HERR Industry System, PT Photonic Tools, Astaras, Cantesco and Weldstone.

ABICOR BINZEL is worth knowing about on its own. Alexander Binzel Schweisstechnik was founded in 1945. They're the recognised world leader in gas-shielded welding and cutting torches, with more than 35 subsidiaries, over 1,200 employees, and operations in more than 50 countries. Their first plasma cutting torches came out in the 1980s.

So the company making our parts sits inside a group with eighty years of torch engineering behind it.

Why I chose them

Here's what I can tell you plainly.

After ten years selling the genuine side, I knew exactly what I didn't want. I'd watched shops get burned by no-name consumables and then write off the entire category, and I wasn't going to be the reason that happened to anybody else.

What I wanted was a manufacturer with engineering behind it, a name that's been on the product for decades, and enough catalogue depth that a shop could get everything from one place — plasma, laser, oxyfuel and welding.

That's Thermacut®. And we're an authorised distributor for them and for ABICOR BINZEL, which means the parts come through the proper channel with the manufacturer standing behind them.

What it means for what you buy

Three practical things.

The parts are engineered, not copied. Thermacut® designs and patents its own consumable technology. The OEM part number on our listings tells you what a part fits — it doesn't tell you who made it, and in this case the answer is a company with its own patents.

The catalogue is deep enough to be your one supplier. Plasma, laser, oxyfuel, welding. Over 6,000 parts. You're not splitting an order across three vendors to get a machine running.

There's somebody to hold accountable. That's the whole argument I've been making for weeks, and it works the same way pointed at me. Thermacut® has to answer to us for what they ship. We have to answer to you. Nobody in that chain is anonymous.
